Has this property always existed as accommodations?

Formerly known as Sunset Cabins in the 1930s and subsequently as Twin Lanterns, Weathervane Cottages boasts over 50 years of providing families in the area with memorable camp life experiences. Throughout its history, Sunset Cabins stood as a symbol of hospitality, welcoming families from near and far to experience the beauty of Aquidneck Island. Generations of visitors fondly recall the warmth and camaraderie found inside the stone walls surrounding the cabins, as well as the countless adventures enjoyed amidst the natural splendor of the flora and landscape.

Did you change the name of the property?

We made the transition to name Weathervane Cottages as it marks a new chapter in the site’s storied history—a continuation of the legacy established by Sunset Cabins and Twin Lanterns which had more of a camp feel to the luxury level of cottages that now exists. While the name may have changed, the spirit of hospitality and commitment to providing a welcoming retreat remains steadfast.

Why did you embark on this venture?

We made the decision to embarks on this new chapter for this property with a sense of reverence for the past and excitement for the future. The legacy of hospitality established by Sunset Cabins in the 1930’s lives on, inspiring future generations to seek solace, adventure, and connection in the tranquil beauty of Newport County.
